Drawings from my A5 Daler-Rowney Sketchbook
Made using watercolor on rough watercolor paper (November 2011)
The ‘Red Door’ was inspired by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli films. I love that Studio Ghibli’s backgrounds are very detailed and textured. Whenever I watch Ghibli films, I always pay attention to the detailed backgrounds and landscapes. I was hoping to achieve that in my illustrations. Also, this is inspired by Asian culture-the red door for Chinese architecture and the lanterns for Japanese decorations.
